[Adopted 7-18-1983 by L.L. No. 2-1983 as Ch. I, Art. II, Div. 23, of the 1983 Code]
The term of office of each elective officer hereafter elected, unless elected to fill a vacancy then existing, shall commence on the first day of January next succeeding his election. The term of office of each appointive officer shall commence on the day succeeding his appointment unless a different day is specified in the certificate of appointment. The terms of office of the Mayor, Comptroller, Treasurer and President of the Common Council shall be four years. The term of office of Alderman shall be four years, except that the terms of Aldermen elected in 1965 shall be for terms of two years, and the terms of Aldermen elected in 1967 shall be for terms of two years, and that for Aldermen elected in 1969 or thereafter, the terms shall be four years. The term of the office of Supervisor shall be two years. The terms of office of the Corporation Counsel, City Engineer, Commissioner of Public Works, Commissioner of Assessment and Taxation, and Sealer of Weights and Measures shall be four years unless sooner removed by the Mayor. Where the term of office of the appointive officer is not specifically fixed by statute, it shall be deemed to continue only during the pleasure of the officer, officers, board or body authorized to make the appointment.

Editor's Note: This local law was originally adopted by the City as L.L. No. 9-1984. Section 2 of this local law, which amended the salaries set forth in Subsection A of this section, read as follows:
§ 2. Commencing on September 1, 1985, and subsequent thereto, the annual salaries of the aforesaid City officials increase by a percentage which is equal to the percentage salary increase provided for nonunionized City of Albany employees.
Whenever required by existing provisions of law, the aforesaid increases in salary shall be subject to approval by the Board of Estimate and Apportionment.
The provisions of § 74 of the Second Class Cities Law and the provisions of § 25 of the General City Law insofar as they restrict or are inconsistent with the provisions of this article are hereby, to that extent, superseded.
The number of Commissioners of Deeds be and hereby is fixed at 1,000.

In order to perform the powers and duties conferred upon the Comptroller by Section 601 of the Charter of the City of Albany, the Comptroller is authorized to examine books, vouchers, papers and electronic records of any department, board, commission, officer or employee of the City, in order to carry out the function of internal audit. The Comptroller is also authorized to require a member of any board, office, commission, or department of the City to furnish the Comptroller with any information, data and reports, including information in electronic format, in order to carry out the function of internal audit.
