Garbage, rubbish and refuse — See Ch. 73.
This chapter shall be known and may be cited as the "Litter Ordinance of the Town of Shelter Island."
No person shall cause, permit or suffer any dirt, filth, waste or rubbish to be deposited in any street, highway, sidewalk, inland waters or public place within the Town of Shelter Island.

An offense against the provisions of this chapter shall constitute a violation under the Penal Law and shall be punishable by a fine of not more than $350 for a first violation, not more than $700 for a second conviction, not more than $1,000 for a third or subsequent conviction, or by imprisonment for not more than 15 days, or both fine and imprisonment.
