No person shall discharge any firearms, including, but not by way of limitation, any air rifle, air pistol, cannons, BB guns, pistols, revolvers, rifles or shotguns while in the Town of Wilton. Exceptions to this prohibition are as follows:
A. 
By duly authorized peace officers acting in the performance of their official duties or by members of the Armed Forces of the United States or of the State of Connecticut or by authorized messengers or bank guards when acting in the performance of their official or authorized duties.
B. 
When otherwise permitted by law, by an individual for the protection of life, limb or property.
C. 
By the owner of land, or the tenant or authorized agent of the owner of land for the express and sole purpose of eliminating nondomestic animals which are menacing domestic animals and/or property on the owner's land, provided that prior notification shall be provided to the Wilton Police Department, except in case of an emergency, in which case the Wilton Police Department shall be notified immediately thereafter.
D. 
By a person legally authorized to hunt under the provisions of Connecticut General Statutes and the regulations issued hereunder, in such places and in such manner as is set forth under such statutes and regulations; however, nothing herein authorizes hunting on any public beach, park or other land owned or leased by the Town of Wilton. Hunting is specifically prohibited on Town-owned or leased property, except when authorized by the Board of Selectmen upon the recommendation of the Conservation Commission and subject to approval by the Police Chief to ensure that public safety concerns are met, for the control of wildlife that threatens public health or safety or when wildlife threatens the ecological integrity of Wilton's natural resources.

E. 
On indoor ranges as otherwise permitted by law or governmental authority.
F. 
Ceremonial use of muskets and cannons and sports-related starter pistols which do not fire a projectile.
Any person found guilty of violating any provision of this chapter will be fined not more than $100.
Copies of this chapter, as revised, are available at the office of the Town Clerk of the Town of Wilton.
This ordinance shall become effective on February 28, 1998.
