The Common Council of the City of Egg Harbor City hereby establishes the position of Municipal Public Defender for the City of Egg Harbor City, County of Atlantic and State of New Jersey. The duties and responsibilities for said position are established herein and created by this article.
The Municipal Public Defender shall be appointed annually at the reorganization meeting of the Common Council of the City of Egg Harbor City. The Municipal Public Defender shall be appointed by the Common Council and shall serve for a period of one year.
The Municipal Public Defender shall be responsible for providing legal services to those persons who are charged with offenses within the jurisdiction of the Egg Harbor City Municipal Court and who have been deemed indigent by the Judge of the Municipal Court and thereby entitled to the services of a defense attorney without charge.[2]
