The Township shall maintain and make available for public inspection a mapping which shows the general location of protected wetlands and drainageways subject to Township approval requirements. A wetland map shall serve as a general guide for the location of potential regulated wetland areas within the Township. Wetland areas not shown on the official wetland map may still be subject to regulation by the Army Corps of Engineers, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and/or the Township. The accuracy and scale of information presented on the map shall be stated. The map shall be updated as necessary.
The Wetlands and Drainageways Map shall not be considered a substitute for on-site field inspection. The applicant for a use approval shall be responsible for identifying boundaries of protected wetlands, and drainageways located on the project site. Field investigations to delineate the precise boundaries of wetlands on a site shall be the responsibility of the property owner and subject to all delineation requirements herein.
The Zoning Administrator shall use mapping and site surveys to identify areas which may be subject to federal, state and local regulation. Upon receipt of an application for a preliminary subdivision plat, site plan, lot split, grading approval, building permit, or other Township approval, the Zoning Administrator shall review the site location in relationship to wetland mapping and site surveys. Applicants shall be notified in writing if it is found that protected wetlands or drainageways may be located on the site, and if an application for wetland and drainageway use approval has not been submitted to the Zoning Administrator. All Township review and approval procedures may be deferred until such time as a complete wetlands and drainageways use application has been received, or until satisfactory evidence has been presented to show that protected wetlands or drainageways are not located on the site.
