It is hereby established within and under the direction of the South River Fire Department a program to be commonly known as the "Fire Cadet Program." Said program will be coordinated by a member of the South River Fire Department along with specific advisors who shall also be members of the South River Fire Department. The Fire Cadet Program shall also adhere to the minimum requirements as set forth in N.J.S.A. 40A:14-95 et seq.
A. 
Qualifications.
(1) 
Members of the South River Fire Cadet Program must adhere to all minimum requirements as set forth by N.J.S.A. 40A:14-96 et seq., along with the following qualifications. Inasmuch as the New Jersey State statutes are minimum qualifications, any qualifications contained herein which are more stringent shall be the controlling qualifications for said Fire Cadet Program.
(2) 
No person shall hereafter become a member of the South River Fire Department Cadet Program unless said person shall:
(a) 
Be between the ages of 14 and 17 years.

(b) 
Maintain a C+ grade in each individual course during each individual marking period.
(c) 
Have written parental/guardian permission as required by N.J.S.A. 40A:14-96.
A. 
No member of the Fire Cadet Program shall be allowed to:
(1) 
Be within the confines of a fire scene.
(2) 
Ride on any fire apparatus, except during the parade or a wetdown, and in such incidence, in a belted position.
(3) 
Respond to the firehouse during school hours.
(4) 
Be in the firehouse unless there is a cadet advisor present, and with the advisor's permission.
(5) 
Place themselves in any dangerous situation with respect to any fire procedure.
B. 
Members of the South River Fire Cadets shall be allowed to:
(1) 
Respond to the firehouse until 9:00 p.m. during school, except if there is a fire, they may remain until 11:00 p.m. with their parent's permission. On weekends and during summer vacation, they may remain at the firehouse until 11:00 p.m. with parental permission.
(2) 
Obtain training for dispatching and truck procedures (maintenance), and the fundamentals of fire fighting, preparing them to become regular members of the South River Fire Department upon attaining the age of 18 or soon thereafter as they may wish.
C. 
Cadets shall listen to all fire directives given by the South River Fire Chief, all line officers, South River Cadet Program coordinators and advisors.
