The position of Administrator Assistant/Special Projects is hereby created and the employment of a person or persons trained and educated to perform responsible and various clerical work of moderate complexity involving the processing and keeping of various police records; assist in the Borough departments (particularly the Department of Finance) and do related work and typing as required. Said position shall also require the employee to perform any and all clerical functions as directed within the scope of the operations of the Administrative Bureau of the Division of Police within the Department of Public Safety and assist the Department of Finance and any other Borough departments as required.
The Administrative Assistant/Special Projects employee shall be appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the Borough Council for an indefinite term and may not be removed except in accordance with the statute and such case made and provided or by majority vote of the authorizing membership of the Council.
The powers and duties of the Administrative Assistant/Special Projects shall include but not be limited to:
A. 
File confidential police records pertaining to criminal matters.
B. 
Organize assigned clerical work and develop effective work methods.
C. 
Compose replies to routine correspondence.
D. 
Look up information.
E. 
Prepare payroll records.
F. 
Assist in the operation of certain utility functions.
G. 
Occasionally operate varied types of office machines and equipment.
H. 
Refer errors and irregularities to superiors.
I. 
Maintain, classify, index and cross-reference records and files.
J. 
Type documents from varied forms of copy.
K. 
Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and computerized information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
The Administrative Assistant/Special Projects employee within the Borough of South River shall receive as compensation for services, an annual salary, which shall be fixed in accordance with the provisions of the ordinance governing the salaries.[1]
