There is created within the Department of Public Works the position
of Supervising Groundskeeper shall under the direction of Department of Public
Works supervise and works with a group of employees engaged in the care and
maintenance of grounds and athletic fields and shall perform any other related
duties as required.
The powers and duties of the Supervising Groundskeeper shall include
but not be limited to:
A.
Supervises and works with the group of employees engaged
in the care and maintenance of grounds and athletic fields. Shall perform
building and grounds duties as assigned.
B.
Supervises the cutting of grass, weeding of lawn areas,
raking of leaves and debris, and disposal of refuse.
C.
Plans and supervises the planting of flowers, trees and
shrubs, the pruning of trees and shrubs, and the fertilizing of lawns.
D.
Supervised snow shoveling, salting and sanding of walk
areas. Shall also assist the road department with icy/snow control.
E.
Plans and lays out athletic fields, and repairing of
goal posts, soccer nets, baskets and other recreational equipment.
F.
Requisitions, receives and inventories materials required
to maintain grounds such as lawn mowers, shrubs, plants, paints, etc.
G.
Give assignments and instructions to employees.
H.
Prepares and maintains records of personnel, work accomplished,
equipment and materials used, and time spent on operations.
I.
Able to or willing to learn to utilize various types
of electronic and/or manual recording and information system used by the agency,
office and related units.
J.
Perform any other duties assigned other than that of
groundskeeper.
A.
Knowledge of processes used in grounds maintenance. Knowledge
of methods used in cutting grass, raking leaves and weeds, and planting flowers,
trees and shrubs.
B.
Knowledge of how to mark athletic fields and care for
equipment, materials and supplies.
C.
Ability to direct subordinates in procedures of maintenance
and care of grounds.
D.
Ability to provide subordinates with advice and assistance
when difficult and unusual problems arise.
E.
Ability to check subordinates work to see that proper
procedures are followed, that reasonable standards of workmanship and output
are maintained and that desired objectives are achieved.
F.
Ability to prepare work schedules and develop effective
work methods.
G.
Ability to obtain, store, safeguard and use equipment,
materials and supplies.
H.
Ability to keep records and files.
I.
Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or
manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office or related
units.
J.
Ability to read, write, speak, understand and communicate
in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign
Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
The Supervising Groundskeeper shall have the following education, experience
and training:
A.
Three years experience in the care and maintenance of
grounds.
B.
Must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
and applicable endorsements for the class (Class BO and type of vehicle being
operated.
C.
May be required to possess a valid Registered Commercial
Pesticide Applicator Certification issued by the Department of Environmental
Protection and valid in the State of New Jersey.
The Supervising Groundskeeper shall receive as compensation for services
an annual salary, which shall be fixed in accordance with the provisions of
the ordinances governing the salaries.
