[Adopted 10-2-2001 (Ch. 20, Art.
I, of the 1985 Code of Ordinances)]
The purpose of this article is to have in place a logical process of
assigning building street address numbers and preventing duplicate and close
sounding names, in the interest of public safety.
A.Â
The Town Manager or designee shall assign/approve street
names for new public streets.
B.Â
The Town Manager or designee shall approve names for
new private streets.
C.Â
Any requests to change the name of an existing public
or private street shall be referred to the Town Manager or his designee for
review. Upon completion of the review, the request shall be forwarded to the
Town Council with a recommendation either in favor of the request or providing
reasons to not grant the request for Town Council action.
The Town Manager or designee shall assign address numbers in accordance
with procedures established by the Town Manager or his designee to allow timely
identification of structures and buildings during emergency and nonemergency
situations.
This article shall not be retroactive except that any building or structure
that is sold or otherwise has any change in the deedholder(s) or is modified
or renovated so that it must be brought into conformance with the existing
applicable firesafety or building safety code shall also bring the building
or structure into compliance with this article.
No certificate of occupancy shall be issued for any building or structure
that does not meet [the requirements of] this article when it is applicable
as determined by the Town Manager or his designee, who will notify the Building
Official whether or not the building/structure is in compliance with this
article.
