Every house, building or structure erected or located within the Borough of Lansdowne shall have displayed on the front of the building the number assigned to the building. The house numbers shall be in plain block numerical form and not script form and shall be a minimum of four inches in height for residential buildings, six inches in height for commercial buildings and 10 inches in height for apartment building letters and for all other buildings. The color of the required numerals shall be in contrast to the immediate background, and such numbers should be made of durable material and clearly visible at night. The numbers shall be procured and affixed at the expense of the owners of the property.
All buildings shall have house numbers placed conspicuously immediately above or at the side of the main door of each building, where practical, in such a manner that the number can be seen plainly from the street. In addition to this requirement, whenever any building is situated more than 50 feet from the street line, a second set of house numbers shall be placed near the walk, driveway or common entrance to the land on which the building is erected or upon a gatepost, rural mailbox, fence, tree or other appropriate place so as to be easily discernible from the street.
In addition to the number on the front of the house, all townhouses shall display identical numbers on the rear of the building in a prominent place so that the numbers are clearly visible from the sidewalk along the rear of the property.
No numbers shall be placed so that they will be hidden at any time by obstructions, screen or storm doors, grass, shrubbery or trees. It shall be a violation of this chapter to obstruct or cause to be obstructed any numbers placed in conformity with this chapter.
Any building abutting on any street or highway in the Borough of Lansdowne, whether an existing or new construction, shall be numbered by the owner or occupant thereof in accordance with the provisions of this chapter within two weeks of the date of written notice by the Office of Licenses, Zoning and Inspections to any said owner or occupier to do so. The written notice shall specify the number of the building, and no number shall be displayed upon any building or lot except the number assigned to the building by the Office of Licenses, Zoning and Inspections in the written notice.
Any person, firm or corporation who or which shall violate any of the provisions of this chapter shall, upon conviction thereof before any Magisterial District Judge, be sentenced to pay a fine of not more than $600 and the cost of prosecution, and in default of payment of such fine and costs shall be imprisoned for a term not exceeding 30 days. Each week's continuation of a violation of this chapter shall constitute a separate offense.
