Unless the context specifically indicates otherwise,
the meaning of terms used in this chapter shall be as follows:
Shall mean that part of the lowest horizontal piping of a
sanitary drainage system which receives the discharge from soil, waste,
and other drainage pipes inside the walls of the building and conveys
it to the building sewer.
Also referred to herein as house sewer or sewer connection,
shall mean the extension from the building drain to the public sewer
or other place of disposal.
Shall mean an impairment of the quality of the waters of
the State by waste to a degree which creates a hazard to the public
health through poisoning or through the spread of disease.
Shall mean a municipality, such as the Village of Cayuga
Heights, or other municipality, with whom the municipality has entered
or may enter into an agreement whereby the said municipality agrees
to receive and treat sewage discharge and waste through its municipal
sewage works.
Shall mean solid wastes from the domestic and commercial
preparation, cooking, and dispensing of food, and from the handling,
storage and sale of produce.
Shall mean the liquid or wastes from industrial manufacturing
processes, trade, or business as distinct from sanitary sewage.
Shall mean the Town Board of the Town of Ithaca.
[1]Shall mean any outlet into a watercourse, pond, ditch, lake,
or other body of surface or groundwater.
Shall mean any individual, firm, company, association, society,
corporation, or group.
Shall mean the logarithm of the reciprocal of the weight
of hydrogen ions in grams per liter of solution.
Shall mean the man-made or man-induced alteration of the
chemical, physical, biological, and radiological integrity of water.
Shall mean the reduction of the amount of pollutant properties
in wastewater to a less harmful state prior to or in lieu of discharging
or otherwise introducing such pollutants into a POTW. The reduction
or alteration can be obtained by physical, chemical, or biological
processes, process changes, or by other means, except as prohibited
by 40 CRF 403.6 General Pretreatment Regulation for Existing and New
Sources of Pollution.
Shall mean the wastes from the preparation, cooking, and
dispensing of food that have been shredded to such a degree that all
particles will be carried freely under the flow conditions normally
prevailing in public sewers, with no particle greater than 1/2 inch
(1.27 centimeters) in any dimension.
Is a treatment works as defined by Section 212 of the Federal
Clean Water Act (33 U.S.C. § 1292). This includes any sewers
that convey wastewater to the POTW but does not include pipes, sewers,
or other conveyances not connected to a facility providing treatment.
Shall mean a sewer in which all owners of abutting properties
have equal rights, and is controlled by public authority.
Shall mean a sewer which carries sewage and to which storm,
surface, and groundwaters are not intentionally admitted.
Shall mean a combination of the water-carried wastes from
residences, business buildings, institutions, and industrial establishments,
together with such ground, surface, and stormwaters as may be present.
Shall mean all facilities for collecting, pumping, treating,
and disposing of sewage.
Shall mean a pipe or conduit for carrying sewage.
Shall mean any person appointed by the Municipal Board who
shall be the Board's authorized agent and representative in the administration
and enforcement of this chapter and shall exercise those powers delegated
to him in this chapter or which may be reasonably required to carry
out such powers. Until such time as a Sewer Inspector or Sewer Superintendent
is appointed, any such powers shall be exercised by such person or
persons as the Municipal Board may designate.
Shall mean a user which consists of:
All industries subject to categorical pretreatment
standards;
Industries having substantial impact, either
singly or in combination with other industries, on the operation of
the treatment works;
Manufacturing industries using priority pollutants;
and
Those industries discharging more than 25,000
gallons per day of process waste.
