This chapter is ordained to control and regulate the conduct of sales
commonly referred to as "garage sales" within residential areas of the Incorporated
Village of Northport.
As used in this chapter, the following terms shall have the meanings
indicated:
The sale of household merchandise, such as surplus household and
other accessory items, owned by the resident(s) of the premises; also commonly
referred to as "tag sales," "estate sales," "moving sales," "yard sales" and
"barn sales."

It shall be unlawful for any person or persons to conduct
any sale commonly known as a "garage sale," within the limits of the boundaries
of the Incorporated Village of Northport without first having received a permit
therefor.
B.
The Village Clerk is hereby authorized to issue such
a permit. The permit shall be issued for a period not to exceed three consecutive
days, between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., after the person or persons
have made application to the Village Clerk, setting forth the name and address
of the applicant and date of sale. Only one license shall be issued within
any one-year period for any said sale at one location.

C.
Notwithstanding the provisions of Chapter 243, Signs, a person holding a permit to conduct a garage sale hereunder shall be entitled to post not more than one sign advertising said garage sale, provided that such sign shall be no greater than four square feet in size and shall be posted on the premises subject of the permit on the days and during the hours of the sale.

It is not the intention of this chapter to change or amend Chapter 306, Zoning, of the Code of the Village of Northport.
Any person violating any of the provisions and terms of this chapter
shall, upon conviction thereof, be subject to a fine of not more than $250
and/or imprisonment for not more than 15 days, or both such fine and imprisonment.
