This article is adopted pursuant to C.G.S. § 9-185.
The Board of Selectmen of the Town of Old Lyme shall be, and it hereby
is, authorized and empowered by majority vote to appoint the constable or
constables who are to serve the Town of Old Lyme in lieu of having such constable
or constables elected under C.G.S. § 9-200, as the same may be amended
from time to time.
The term of office of any such constable so appointed shall, as provided
for in C.G.S. § 9-187, expire on the termination date of the term
of the Board of Selectmen making such appointment.
Any vacancy in the office of constable shall be filled by majority vote
of the Board of Selectmen for the unexpired portion of the term of such office.
Any incumbent in the office of constable may be removed by majority
vote of the Board of Selectmen for cause upon written charges and after hearing.
