The purpose of this article is to set minimum public liability insurance requirements for school bus operators and ambulance service providers for or in the Town of East Hampton.
As used in this article, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:
AMBULANCE PROVIDER
Any person, firm, partnership, corporation or entity of any nature involved in the business of providing ambulance transportation, whether gratuitously or for monetary payment.
SCHOOL BUS OPERATOR
Any person, firm, partnership, corporation or entity of any nature involved in the business of supplying transportation by school bus, whether gratuitously or for monetary payment, of pupils to and from school or school activities.
A. 
All school bus operators doing business for or in the Town of East Hampton shall maintain a motor vehicle liability policy reflecting liability insurance coverage with a combined single limit of not less than $3,000,000 for each occurrence involving either bodily injury or property damage.
B. 
All ambulance providers doing business for or in the Town of East Hampton shall maintain a motor vehicle liability policy reflecting liability insurance coverage with a combined single limit of not less than $1,000,000 for each occurrence involving either bodily injury or property damage.
A certificate of insurance complying with the requirements of this article shall be filed with the Town Clerk of East Hampton on or before July 1 of each year. The certificate must be issued by an insurance company or companies licensed to do business in the State of Connecticut. The certificate of insurance shall indicate that the Town shall receive 30 days' notice prior to any material change or cancellation of the insurance coverage.
Notwithstanding the provisions hereof, the Town of East Hampton shall not be liable in any matter or to any person whatsoever for the failure of any school bus operator or ambulance provider to be in compliance herewith.
