[Amended 12-3-1990 by Ord. No. 90-39]
All commercial, industrial and residential buildings must contain an appropriate street number or numbers, commonly known as an "address."
All commercial and industrial buildings must display the name of the business on the rear door.
The owner, agent, lessee, person or persons in possession of or having custody and/or control of any building as set forth in the previous section shall cause to be placed, affixed or displayed thereon the street number or address of said building and at all times shall maintain such number in compliance with the provisions of this chapter.
The figure or figures comprising the number or address to be displayed on a building shall be at least three inches in height and shall be placed on the front of said building in a prominent and conspicuous place and in such manner as to be plainly visible and legible from the center of the adjoining street at all times between sunrise and sunset. The color of said figures shall be in sharp contrast to the color of their background; provided, however, that all commercial and/or industrial buildings must display the street numbers or figures in the front and rear of the building. This requirement is to aid and assist the Police and Fire Departments in an effort to efficiently and expeditiously respond to emergency situations.
The numbers shall be so placed so that they will not be obstructed by trees, shrubbery, porches or other extensions of the building.
Wherever practicable, the number or numbers shall be placed near some light or source of illumination for visibility during the nighttime hours.
If there is curbing adjacent to the building or buildings as described in this chapter, the address shall be painted or stenciled on the vertical face of the curb in front of said building, provided that the figures are of modern Roman type and are white on a black background.
Any person, firm or corporation who shall violate any of the provisions of this chapter shall, upon conviction thereof, before the Municipal Court of the Borough, be subject to a fine not exceeding $500 or imprisonment in the county jail for a term not exceeding 90 days, or both, in the discretion of the Municipal Judge before whom such defendant shall be convicted. A separate offense may be deemed committed on each day during or on which a violation occurs or continues.
