Each owner of a property for which a building permit has been issued shall be assigned an address number for the property. The address number shall be supplied by the Village Clerk at the time of issuance of a building permit.
To ensure that emergency personnel may promptly locate a property, it shall be the property owner's duty to display and maintain the address number for the property as provided herein. Upon issuance of a building permit, the property owner shall temporarily display the address number by mounting it on a post located on the right side of the driveway not more than 10 feet from the curbline. Upon issuance of an occupancy permit, the property owner shall permanently display the address number by mounting it on the street side of the building so that it is clearly visible from the street.
It shall be unlawful for any person to remove an address number once it has been displayed as required herein, except for repair or replacement of the same.
If the Building Inspector or Director of Public Works finds that any provision of this chapter is being violated, he shall notify the property owner in writing, by certified mail, of the violation and direct that the property owner correct all violations within five days of the date of said notice.
If any violation of this chapter is not corrected within the prescribed time, the property owner shall be subject to a penalty as provided in Chapter 1, § 1-5 of this Code.
