The Board of Trustees of the village may, by resolution, purchase, at village expense, blanket accident insurance to insure the active volunteer firemen of the Garden City Fire Department, fire auxiliary and volunteer firemen whose services are accepted pursuant to General Municipal Law § 209-i against injury or death resulting directly and independently of all other causes from accidental bodily injuries sustained by such firemen in the performance of their duties.
Such insurance may provide for accidental death and dismemberment, heart attack benefits and disability benefits in such terms and amounts as to be determined by the Board of Trustees.
Any insurance purchased pursuant to the foregoing provisions of this chapter shall be in addition to, and without regard to the amount of, benefits payable to volunteer firemen and their dependents under the Volunteer Firemen's Benefit Law and any other insurance coverage purchased by or on behalf of such volunteer firemen and their dependents.
Nothing herein shall be deemed to impose any liability upon the Village of Garden City, its officers, agents, servants or employees for any benefits in addition to those provided under the Volunteer Firemen's Benefit Law.
