As used in this chapter and unless otherwise expressly stated, the following words and phrases shall have the meanings indicated:
APPLICANT or PERSON
Any natural person, partnership, copartnership, limited partnership, firm, association, corporation or other legal entity and their agents, including but not limited to truck drivers. Whenever used in any section prescribing or imposing a penalty, the term "person," as applied to associations, shall also include the partners or members thereof and, as applied to corporations, shall also include the officers thereof.
ENGINEER
The Township of Pine's engineer.
EXCAVATION or OPENING
The process by which the material on and below the surface of a street or road is removed, regardless of whether it is later replaced.
MATERIAL
All physical substances.
PRIVATE DRIVEWAY
A private way, lane or road, not dedicated to public use and providing access from private buildings or lands to public roads.
PUBLIC ROAD or ROAD
Any road, avenue, street, alley, right-of-way or strip of land, including the entire right-of-way, not limited to the roadway, intended for general public use as a means of vehicular and pedestrian circulation within the Township of Pine.
STREET
Any public street, avenue, road, square, alley, highway, regardless of the surface composition or other public way or public grounds of the Township of Pine and shall include any unimproved areas within the street right-of-way boundaries.
TOWNSHIP
The municipal government or the land within the geographical boundaries of Pine Township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, depending upon the context.
TUNNELLING or BORING
The process by which earth and other material is removed from the area below the surface of a street without breaking the surface of the street and regardless of whether such material is later replaced.
ZONING OFFICER
The Zoning Officer of the Township of Pine.
The singular shall include the plural, and the masculine shall include the feminine.
