GENERAL REFERENCES

As used in this chapter, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:
AIRCRAFT
Includes airplanes, helicopters, gliders, ultralight aircraft and all heavier-than-air aircraft as well as all lighter-than-air aircraft.
FOR EDUCATIONAL AND PUBLIC PURPOSES
An undertaking for the intellectual improvement and cultivation of the mind for which the community at large has some interest.
No person shall pilot any aircraft at an altitude of less than 1,000 feet over the Township of Shaler, or any part thereof, except in an emergency or for taking off or landing at a landing facility which has been licensed and approved by the proper authorities of the United States government and/or the government of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and/or the Township of Shaler.

Helicopters and ultralight aircraft shall be permitted to make landings other than at landing facilities referred to in ยงย 74-2 of this chapter and emergency landings only in areas within an Industrial District as defined in the Township of Shaler Zoning Ordinance and as designated on the Zoning Map of the Township[1] when permission of the property owner is granted, written permission of the Township Manager has been obtained and such landings are made with proper regard to safe practices.

Helicopters and ultralight aircraft may procure special permission to make landings other than at facilities referred to in ยงย 74-2 and Subsection A of this section for educational and public purposes when adequate safety precautions have been made in advance, which shall be specifically approved in writing by the Township Manager or the Chief of Police, the landing is made under strict police supervision and written permission of the property owner is granted.

Any person, firm, corporation or group of individuals found in violation of this chapter shall, upon conviction thereof before any issuing authority, be subject to a fine of up to $1,000 and may be sentenced to a period of incarceration not exceeding 90 days in the Allegheny County Jail. Each incident in violation of this chapter shall be considered a separate offense and may be punishable as such.
