A.
The Closter Police Department shall consist of a Chief
of Police and as many subordinate officers, members and employees
as may be authorized by the governing body. All appointments to the
Department shall be made by the Borough Council upon recommendation
by the Chief of Police.
B.
Promotions within the Police Department shall be made in accordance with the procedures set forth in Chapter 50 of the Borough Code.
C.
Department personnel.
(1)
The Closter Police Department may consist of the following
personnel:
(a)
One Chief of Police.
(b)
One Deputy Chief.
(c)
One Captain.
(d)
Three Lieutenants.
(e)
Six Sergeants, effective up to December 31,
2019. As of January 1, 2020, there shall be five Sergeants.[1]

provided as follows: “Six Sergeants, up to and until December
31, 2016. This amendment will be automatically repealed absent further
action by the governing body and will return to five Sergeants.”

Twenty police officers.
