Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40A:9-120, the Township Council may appoint not fewer than two nor more than 50 Constables. In order to be eligible for such an appointment, a person must have been a resident and qualified voter of the Township for at least three years prior to the appointment.
The term of office for said Constable shall be for one year initially, and, upon reappointment, the term shall be for three years.
There shall be an annual charge of $50 for all appointees for said position of Constable due on the initial appointment and on each subsequent anniversary date.
The term of office referred to above shall not affect any present Constable who has been duly appointed; however, the license fee of $50 shall be due and payable for all persons presently holding the position of Constable. The fee shall be payable commencing January 1, 1972.
