A. 
The first six months immediately following initial appointment or promotion of an employee shall be considered a period of probation. Said probation may be extended by the Health Officer for one or more extended periods upon the Health Officer's written notification of said extension to the probationary employee and the President.
B. 
At the Board meeting prior to the ending of the probationary period and any extension for each employee, the Health Officer shall recommend either permanent status, continued probation or termination for the employee. The recommendation of the Health officer may be approved or modified by the Board or shall be deemed accepted if the Board takes no action inconsistent with the recommendation.
The Health Officer, in his/her discretion, may terminate new employees during the probationary period, and said termination and reduction shall not be subject to any of the appeal or grievance procedures provided herein.
Probationary employees shall not be eligible for annual salary increments. Annual salary increments, if any, shall be retroactive to the date the employee attains permanent status.
Vacations shall accrue and may be taken during the probationary period at the discretion of the Health Officer.
