A. 
All employees are eligible for sick leave with pay for the conditions set forth in Subsection B below and subject to the accrual thereof as set forth in Subsection C below.
B. 
Sick leave with pay shall be granted for the following reasons: personal illnesses; physical incapacity to perform duties of position of employment or reasonable equivalent duties; illness of member of employee's household that requires employee's personal care and attention; and enforced quarantine of employee because of exposure to contagious disease.
C. 
In order to receive compensation while absent on sick leave, the employee shall notify his Health Officer within 1/2 hour after the time set for the employee to begin his daily schedule. Failure to comply with the aforesaid notice requirements may result in a forfeiture of sick leave benefits.
D. 
When an employee claims sick leave for a period of greater than three consecutive days or totaling more than 10 days in one calendar year, he shall submit to his Health Officer, immediately upon his return to work, a doctor's certification of the existence of the condition entitling the employee to sick leave. The above may be waived at the discretion of the Health Officer.
E. 
The Health Officer may undertake to confirm the existence of a valid basis for sick leave, and any employee failing to cooperate with said investigation shall forfeit the benefits contained herein.
A. 
All employees who are unable to perform their regular duties, or reasonable equivalent duties, because of injury or illness incurred in the course of the performance of their duties as employees of the Department, as a result thereof, shall be entitled to leave with pay as provided below.
B. 
Leave with full pay may be granted by the Health Officer, to an employee meeting the criteria provided in Subsection A above for a maximum period of 30 days. Additional leave with pay may be granted by the Board upon advice of the Health Officer for up to one year. The determination of the Health Officer and the Board with respect to the extent and duration of disability pay shall be predicated upon the length and quality of service to the Department rendered by the employee seeking said benefits. All disability benefits provided herein are contingent upon the availability of sufficient funds being appropriated therefor. Any employee receiving benefits under any workmen's compensation law, insurance program or otherwise due to absence from work as a result of a disability provided herein shall reimburse the Department for all benefits received hereunder to the extent of his receipt of a collateral benefit.
C. 
The Health Officer may investigate the eligibility of an employee for disability benefits, and the failure of any employee to cooperate with said investigation shall result in a forfeiture of all benefits provided hereunder.
The Health Officer may grant permission to employees to attend conferences, conventions, training sessions, meetings and any other.similar type activities upon a finding that such attendance is in the best interest of the Department. Said permission may be granted with or without pay and/or expense allowances at the discretion of the Health Officer. Any attendance herein required by the Health Officer shall be with pay. Any period of authorized leave of absence provided herein shall in no event be greater than the period of actual attendance, plus reasonable travel time.
Absence from the Department because of maternity shall not be considered as sick leave and shall be without pay. Employees who become pregnant must report the same to the Health Officer before the end of the third month of pregnancy; thereupon it shall be determined by the employee, the Health Officer and the employee's physician, the proper time for the employee's separation from service. Appropriate leave of absence may be granted to an employee, in good standing, for maternity and for a reasonable post-delivery period, and said employee shall be entitled to return to her former position, or a comparable position, at any time within one year from the date of her separation.
Employees summoned to serve on jury duty and who actually serve shall be granted leave with pay for the period of service. However, the pay to which said employee shall be entitled during the period of absence shall be reduced by any compensation received by the employee for said jury service.
Subject to the approval of the Board, the Health Officer may approve such other leaves of absence not specifically authorized herein, with or without pay, up to a maximum of 30 days as may be desirable for effective and harmonious employer-employee relations in the administration of the Board of Health; prior to the effectuation of any leave under this section, the Health Officer shall advise the Board of his/her desire to grant said leave at its next regular meeting, and the Board shall be deemed to have approved of said leave unless it takes some affirmative action at the meeting modifying the request.
