GENERAL REFERENCES

There is hereby created in the Village of Port Jefferson a Code Enforcement Bureau the function of which shall be the enforcement of the Code of the Incorporated Village of Port Jefferson.

A. 
The Mayor, with the consent of the Board of Trustees, may appoint a Commissioner of the Code Enforcement Bureau and set forth his duties and responsibilities.
B. 
The Mayor, with the consent of the Board of Trustees, may appoint a Chief of the Code Enforcement Bureau and such other and necessary personnel to the Code Enforcement Bureau.
All Code Enforcement Officers are authorized to issue appearance tickets relating to the enforcement of the Code of the Incorporated Village of Port Jefferson.
The Mayor and/or Commissioner is authorized to make rules and regulations as may be required for the efficient administration of such Code Enforcement Bureau and shall also provide, within the limits of any appropriation and subject to the Board of Trustees, the following:
A. 
Liability insurance for such Chief and Code Enforcement Officers that shall protect them and the Village from liability that may arise out of and in the course of the performance of their respective duties.
B. 
Workers' compensation, accident insurance, disability insurance and/or life insurance as shall be agreed upon between the Village Board of Trustees and the Code Enforcement Bureau personnel.
C. 
For the payment of the Code Enforcement Officers for service rendered upon an hourly basis.
D. 
Uniforms and equipment for the Chief and Code Enforcement Officers as may be necessary or desirable to carry out the duties of the Bureau.
E. 
An annual physical examination upon which employment or reemployment shall be predicated on the successful passage of such examination.
