[HISTORY: Adopted by the Board of Trustees of the Village of Port Jefferson as Ch. 39 of the 1970 Code. Amendments noted where applicable.]
No person shall open, keep, maintain, own, operate or carry on any employment agency in the Incorporated Village of Port Jefferson unless such person shall have first procured an annual license therefor as provided in this chapter and shall have paid the annual fees therefor. Such license shall be posted conspicuously in said agency.
As used in this chapter, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:
EMPLOYMENT AGENCY
Any person, as hereinafter defined who, for a fee, procures or attempts to procure employment or engagements for persons seeking employment or engagements or procures or attempts to procure employees for employers seeking the services of employees or renders vocational or guidance service for such seekers.
PERSON
A corporation, association, partnership, individual or their employees or agents.

The fee payable for such license shall be the sum of $100 annually.
A. 
A written application for such annual license shall be made to the Board of Trustees by the person owning said employment agency, and said application shall be made in the form prescribed by the Board of Trustees.
B. 
Every license shall contain the name of the person licensed, a designation of the street and number of the place in which the person licensed is authorized to carry on said employment agency and the number and date of such license.
C. 
Any license issued hereunder shall run for a period of one year following the date thereof, unless sooner revoked.
D. 
The Mayor or his designee will act as licensing officer.

No license shall be issued to a person who is not of good character or responsibility or where the name of the employment agency directly or indirectly expresses any limitation, specification or discrimination as to race, creed, color or national origin. No license shall be valid for any person other than the person to whom it is issued or for any place other than that designated in the license, and no license shall be assigned or transferred without the consent of the Board of Trustees. The location of an employment agency shall not be changed without the consent of the Board of Trustees.

Any person who violates this chapter or fails to comply with any of its requirements shall, upon conviction thereof, be subject to the penalties provided in § 1-2 of the Code of the Village of Port Jefferson.
