As used in this chapter, the following terms
shall have the meanings indicated:
Any vehicle used or constructed or intended for use for conveyance
upon public streets so designed, constructed or reconstructed that
it can be used as or as to permit its occupancy as a dwelling, living
or sleeping place for one or more persons or for the conduct of any
business or profession or occupation or trade, whether self-propelled
or not self-propelled, standing on wheels only, with no foundations,
jacks or skirting.
A.
It shall be unlawful within the limits of the Village
of Port Jefferson for any person to park or store any mobile home,
recreational vehicle, trailer, boat or boat trailer on any street
or front yard, whether publicly or privately owned, temporarily or
otherwise, except as provided in this chapter.
(1)
Parking or storage of one boat on a boat trailer is
permitted in residential districts only in a rear or side yard. Said
boat and trailer shall be owned and registered to the property owner.
(2)
Parking or storage of a trailer, mobile home or recreational
vehicle is permitted in residential districts only in the rear or
side yard.
B.
Emergency or temporary stopping or parking is permitted
on any street for not longer than 24 hours in any thirty-day period.
No mobile home, recreational vehicle, boat or boat trailer, while
so parked within the limits of the Village of Port Jefferson, shall
be used by any person as dwelling, place of abode, sleeping place
or place of business, whether temporary or otherwise.
C.
No mobile home, recreational vehicle, trailer, boat
or boat trailer shall be used by any persons as a dwelling place or
abode, sleeping place or place of business.
Notwithstanding anything to the contrary, a
trailer for temporary living quarters, mobile home and/or recreational
vehicle can remain upon a residential parcel in the case of disaster
only for a maximum duration of six months, subject to obtaining a
permit from the Village Clerk upon the payment of appropriate fees.
The Village Board of Trustees may approve an extension of this time
frame after a public hearing.

Any person who violates this chapter or fails to comply with any of its requirements shall, upon conviction thereof, be subject to the penalties provided in § 1-2 of the Code of the Village of Port Jefferson.
