[HISTORY: Adopted by the Township Committee

The Committee known as the Maplewood Environmental Advisory
Committee is established for and in the Township of Maplewood ("Township").
The general purposes of the Maplewood Advisory Committee shall
include but not be limited to:
A.
Respond
to requests from the Township Committee for advisory support on environmental
issues;
B.
Monitor
and research local, county, state and federal regulations pertinent
to the Township's suburban/urban environmental setting and, at
the direction of the Township Committee, provide such information
to interested parties;
C.
At
the direction of the Township Committee, research and prepare written
responses (write papers, editorials, letters to political representatives,
etc.) on behalf of the Township to pertinent proposed environmental,
solid waste and recycling regulations potentially affecting the community;
D.
Act
as a source for information regarding environmental issues which may
be of interest to the Township;
E.
Propose
reasonable regulations in consultation with the Township Administrator
and the Township Recycling Coordinator and subject to the approval
of the Township Committee for the Township environmental well-being;
F.
Develop
necessary educational programs related to environmental issues at
the direction of the Township Committee;
G.
Maintain
a database of volunteers experienced in various environmental areas
of expertise; and
H.
Coordinate
all activities in the annual commemoration of Earth Day.
A.
The Township Committee shall appoint 10 residents of the Township
to serve as the Maplewood Environmental Advisory Committee. The term
of office shall be three years. All terms shall expire December 31
of the last year of the person's term. The present appointees
shall continue through the end of their term. All new appointees shall
serve for terms of three years.
B.
Additionally, a member of the Township Committee, the Maplewood Township
Health Officer and the Maplewood Township Director of Public Works
or their designees shall serve as ex officio members of the Committee.
Ex officio members shall not vote.
Meetings of the Maplewood Environmental Advisory Committee shall
be held quarterly or more frequently as needed.
A.
The Maplewood Environmental Advisory Committee shall annually elect
a Chair from among its members who shall be responsible for scheduling
and conducting meetings of the Committee. The Chair shall serve for
one year. Ex officio members may not serve as the Chair.

The Chair will participate in the Township Committee Environmental
Subcommittee as requested.
