GENERAL REFERENCES

No pole shall be erected within any public right-of-way by any telegraph, telephone or electric light company or by any board or commission of the City or by any other person without the consent of the City Council. No pole shall be erected on any sidewalk less than seven feet wide.

The Director of Public Works shall establish specifications as to the height, size, type and character of poles to be erected within the City. All poles within the City shall be erected and maintained in accordance with such specifications.
The City shall have the right to use the top crossbeam of any telegraph, telephone or electric light pole for the purpose of attaching and maintaining wires of the City.

All decayed or unsafe poles in any street or sidewalk of the City shall be removed within 24 hours after notice in writing by the Director of Public Works to the person maintaining any such pole, and if not removed within such time, the same may be removed by the Director of Public Works.
No person shall climb upon any light post or hang or place any goods or merchandise thereon or place any material upon or against the same or extinguish or partially extinguish or obscure the light of any streetlight, unless duly authorized to do so.
No person shall suspend or maintain over or across any building any wire or cable for the purpose of conducting electricity for light, heat or power.
No telegraph, telephone or electric light wire shall be less than 16 feet above the surface of any street or sidewalk.

Violators of any of the provisions of this chapter shall, upon conviction thereof, be punishable by a fine of not more than $2,000, imprisonment for not more than 90 days and/or 90 days of community service.
