No person shall operate any vehicles on the portion of the streets specified in § 249-13 of this article during the time therein specified, except in the directions therein stated, unless otherwise directed by a police officer, fire police or crossing guard. The directions in which vehicles may proceed shall be conspicuously shown by signs.
