The water supply of any water district or improvement
district shall always be distributed through piping systems entirely
independent of any piping system conveying another water supply, unless
the method of distribution conforms to the rules and regulations of
the water improvement district supplying water to the particular premises.

All plumbing fixtures shall be provided with an adequate
supply of water for flushing to keep them in a sanitary condition.
Every water closet or pedestal urinal shall be flushed by means of
a tank or flush valve.

Any water closet or urinal bowl supplied directly
from a water supply through a flushometer or a tank valve shall be
provided with a vacuum breaker and a check valve, both set above the
water closet or urinal in such a manner as to prevent any possibility
of polluting the water supply, unless a low-down tank with an antisiphon-type
ball cock is used.

No plumbing fixture or similar device shall be installed
where the connections to the same can in any manner cause a cross-connection
between a distributing system of water for drinking or domestic purposes
and a drainage, soil waste, leader or vent pipe. The water supply
for sinks, soda fountains, bar sinks, dishwashers, etc., shall be
of the overrim type with an inlet at least three inches above the
rim or top slab of the fixture.

Accessible backflow preventer valves/check valves
for cross-connection control in potable water distribution systems
and shutoff valves which shall separately control the water supply
shall be provided for each flat or apartment of a building or dwelling,
for each lawn sprinkler, for each hot water tank and for each water
closet.

A brass or bronze relief valve shall be provided
on each hot water tank or heated unit or on the hot water main adjacent
to the tank. Installation of relief valves shall be compatible with
the manufacturer's approved ratings. Relief valve discharge piping
shall be installed to an approved location.
