The workweek shall consist of 40 hours within a one-hundred-sixty-eight-hour period with fixed starting and ending times. Department heads, with the approval of the Town Manager, for purposes of departmental efficiency or to meet special operations needs, may vary the hours of an employee or group of employees so that those employees will have other than the standard workweek described above.
The workday shall consist of eight hours.
Each employee shall be entitled to two fifteen-minute rest breaks with the first coming in the first half of the workday and the second coming in the second half of the workday. In computing the workday, these breaks shall be counted as time worked.
Each employee shall be entitled to a lunch break of 30 minutes at approximately the midpoint of each workday. With the exception of emergency services employees, the lunch break shall not be counted as time worked in computing the workday.
The Town Manager and department heads shall endeavor to establish schedules of working hours in order to maximize productivity and effectiveness.
All departments and divisions or sections thereof shall post the regular hours of work for the respective groups in a conspicuous place.
When circumstances warrant, overtime work shall be required.
A. 
Management schedules. Management-level employees who hold salaried positions are paid on the basis of job responsibility, and it is the responsibility of the person filling the position to accomplish work assigned to the position regardless of the hours required to do the work, within reason. Further, because of their responsibilities for service, program and goal accomplishment, they shall be available as necessary for service beyond the normal workweek. Such employees shall be ineligible for overtime rates of pay but shall be eligible, at the discretion of the Town Manager and when the workload permits, to be granted compensatory time off in recognition of extra hours worked.
B. 
All employees, except management-level employees compensated on a salary basis, shall be compensated at 1 1/2 times their hourly base rate for all hours worked over 40 hours in a workweek. This provision will not apply to situations where schedules other than 40 hours per week are established for more efficient operation or employee convenience.
C. 
For purposes of this section, hours worked shall include hours actually worked, hours compensated for with holiday pay, vacation leave pay, medical leave pay, or bereavement leave pay.
D. 
All overtime hours shall require advance authorization from an appropriate supervisor.
