Every operator of a motor vehicle or bus traveling upon any street intersecting or joining any throughway designated in § 248-16 shall bring such motor vehicle or bus to a full stop at or near the place where such street meets the prolongation of the nearest property line of such throughway; subject, however, to the direction of any traffic control sign or signal or any police officer at such intersection or junction. The operator of any vehicle who has come to a full stop as required in this section, upon entering the throughway, as well as the operators of any vehicles on such throughways, shall be subject to the usual right-of-way rule prescribed by law and applicable to vehicles at intersections or junctions.
The Chief of Police is hereby authorized and directed to place and maintain or to cause to be placed and maintained on each and every street intersecting any throughway designated in § 248-16 and at or near the property line of such throughway appropriate signs upon the street and, in addition thereto, may place and maintain any appropriate devices or marks in the roadway, such signs, devices or marks to bear the word "Stop" and to be located in such position and to be provided with letters of a size to be clearly legible from a distance of at least 100 feet along the street intersecting or joining the throughway. All such signs shall be illuminated at night or so placed as to be illuminated by streetlights or by the headlights of approaching motor vehicles.

A. 
Generally. The operator of any motor vehicle or bus who has come to a full stop as required in this section, upon entering the intersecting street, as well as the operators of any vehicles on the intersecting street, shall be subject to the usual right-of-way rule prescribed by law and applicable to the vehicles at intersections or junctions.
B. 
Traffic control signs. The operator of any motor vehicle or bus who has come to a full stop as required below shall be subject, however, to the direction of any traffic control sign or signal or any police officer at such intersection.
C. 
Specific multiway stop intersections are as follows:
(1) 
Queen Street and Duke Street. Every operator of a motor vehicle or bus traveling upon Queen Street at its intersection with Duke Street shall bring such vehicle or bus to a full stop at or near the place where Queen Street meets the prolongation of the nearest property line of Duke Street, and every operator of a motor vehicle or bus traveling upon Duke Street at its intersection with Queen Street shall bring such motor vehicle or bus to a full stop at or near the place where Duke Street meets the prolongation of the nearest property line of Queen Street.
(2) 
Friendship Street and Prospect Street. Every operator of a motor vehicle or bus traveling upon Friendship Street at its intersection with Prospect Street shall bring such vehicle or bus to a full stop at or near the place where Friendship Street meets the prolongation of the nearest property line of Prospect Street, and every operator of a motor vehicle or bus traveling upon Prospect Street at its intersection with Friendship Street shall bring such vehicle or bus to a full stop at or near the place where Prospect Street meets the prolongation of the nearest property line of Friendship Street.
(3) 
Friendship Street and Cliff Street. Every operator of a motor vehicle or bus traveling upon Friendship Street at its intersection with Cliff Street shall bring such vehicle or bus to a full stop at or near the place where Friendship Street meets the prolongation of the nearest property line of Cliff Street, and every operator of a motor vehicle or bus traveling upon Cliff Street at its intersection with Friendship Street shall bring such motor vehicle or bus to a full stop at or near the place where Cliff Street meets the prolongation of the nearest property line of Friendship Street (three-way stop).
(4) 
Reynolds Street and Spring Street. Every operator of a motor vehicle or bus traveling upon Reynolds Street at its intersection with Spring Street shall bring such vehicle or bus to a full stop at or near the place where Reynolds Street meets the prolongation of the nearest property line of Spring Street, and every operator of a motor vehicle or bus traveling upon Spring Street at its intersection with Reynolds Street shall bring such vehicle or bus to a full stop at or near the place where Spring Street meets the prolongation of the nearest property line of Reynolds Street (three-way stop).
(5) 
Frenchtown Road and Tillinghast Road. Every operator of a motor vehicle or bus traveling upon Frenchtown Road at its intersection with Tillinghast Road shall bring such vehicle or bus to a full stop at or near the place where Frenchtown Road meets the prolongation of the nearest property line of Tillinghast Road, and every operator of a motor vehicle or bus traveling upon Tillinghast Road at its intersection with Frenchtown Road shall bring such motor vehicle or bus to a full stop at or near the place where Tillinghast Road meets the prolongation of the nearest property line of Frenchtown Road.
(6) 
Chestnut Drive and Grand View Road. Every operator of a motor vehicle or bus traveling upon Chestnut Drive at its intersection with Grand View Road shall bring such motor vehicle or bus to a full stop at or near the place where Chestnut Drive meets the prolongation of the nearest property line of Grand View Road; every operator of a motor vehicle or bus traveling upon Grand View Road at its intersection with Chestnut Drive shall bring such motor vehicle or bus to a full stop at or near the place where Grand View Road meets the prolongation of the nearest property line of Chestnut Drive.
(7) 
Middle Road and Tillinghast Road. Every operator of a motor vehicle or bus traveling upon Middle Road at its intersection with Tillinghast Road shall bring such motor vehicle or bus to a full stop at or near the place where Middle Road meets the prolongation of the nearest property line of Tillinghast Road, and every operator of a motor vehicle or bus traveling upon Tillinghast Road shall bring such motor vehicle or bus to a full stop at or near the place where Middle Road meets the prolongation of the nearest property line of Tillinghast Road (three-way stop).

(8) 
Cedar Avenue, Sylvan Drive and Pricewood Drive. Every operator of a motor vehicle or bus traveling upon Cedar Avenue at its intersection with Sylvan Drive shall bring such motor vehicle or bus to a full stop at or near the place where Cedar Avenue meets the prolongation of the nearest property line of Sylvan Drive, and every operator of a motor vehicle or bus traveling upon Sylvan Drive shall bring such motor vehicle or bus to a full stop at or near the place where Sylvan Drive meets the prolongation of the nearest property line of Cedar Avenue. Every operator of a motor vehicle or bus traveling upon Cedar Avenue at its intersection with Pricewood Drive shall bring such motor vehicle or bus to a full stop at or near the place where Cedar Avenue meets the prolongation of the nearest property line of Pricewood Drive, and every operator of a motor vehicle or bus traveling upon Pricewood Drive at its intersection with Cedar Avenue shall bring such motor vehicle or bus to a full stop at or near the place where Pricewood Drive meets the prolongation of the nearest property line of Cedar Avenue (four-way stop involving three differently named streets).
(9) 
Water Street and King Street. Every operator of a motor vehicle or bus traveling in a northerly direction upon Water Street at its intersection with King Street shall bring such motor vehicle or bus to a full stop at or near the place where Water Street meets the prolongation of the southerly property line of King Street (one-way stop).
(10) 
Shippee Road and Frenchtown Road. Every operator of a motor vehicle or bus traveling in an easterly direction upon Frenchtown Road at its intersection with Shippee Road shall bring such motor vehicle or bus to a full stop at or near the place where Frenchtown Road meets the prolongation of the westerly property line of Shippee Road; every operator of a motor vehicle or bus traveling in a northerly direction upon Shippee Road at its intersection with Frenchtown Road shall bring such motor vehicle or bus to a full stop at or near the place where Shippee Road meets the prolongation of the southerly property line of Frenchtown Road (two-way stop).
(11) 
Division Street and the Amtrak Railroad. Every operator of a motor vehicle or bus traveling in an easterly and westerly direction upon Division Street at its intersection with the Amtrak Railroad shall bring such motor vehicle or bus to a full stop at or near the place where Division Street meets the right-of-way of the Amtrak Railroad (two-way stop).
(12) 
Cindyann Drive and Bunker Hill Lane. Every operator of a motor vehicle or bus traveling in a southerly direction upon Cindyann Drive at its intersection with Bunker Hill Lane shall bring such motor vehicle or bus to a full stop at or near the place where Cindyann Drive meets the prolongation of the northerly property line of Bunker Hill Lane (one-way stop).
(13) 
Mawney Street and Friendship Street. Every operator of a motor vehicle or bus traveling upon Mawney Street at its intersection with Friendship Street shall bring such motor vehicle or bus to a full stop at or near the place Mawney Street meets the prolongation of the nearest property line of Friendship Street; every operator of a motor vehicle or bus traveling upon Friendship Street at its intersection with Mawney Street shall bring such motor vehicle or bus to a full stop at or near the place where Friendship Street meets the prolongation of the nearest property line of Mawney Street.
(14) 
Misty Oak Drive and Grand View Road. Every operator of a motor vehicle or bus traveling upon Misty Oak Drive at its intersection with Grand View Road shall bring such motor vehicle or bus to a full stop at or near the place Misty Oak Drive meets the prolongation of the nearest property line of Grand View Road; every operator of a motor vehicle or bus traveling upon Grand View Road at its intersection with Misty Oak Drive shall bring such motor vehicle or bus to a full stop at or near the place where Grand View Road meets the prolongation of the nearest property line of Misty Oak Drive.
(15) 
Grasslands Road and LeBaron Drive. Every operator of a motor vehicle or bus traveling in a northwesterly direction on Grasslands Road at its intersection with LeBaron Drive shall bring such motor vehicle or bus to a full stop at or near the place where Grasslands Road meets the prolongation of the northeasterly property line of LeBaron Drive; every operator of a motor vehicle or bus traveling in a southeasterly direction on LeBaron Drive shall bring such motor vehicle or bus to a full stop at or near the place where LeBaron Drive meets the prolongation of the northerly property line of Phillips Road (two-way stop).
(16) 
Phillips Road and Reed Place. Every operator of a motor vehicle or bus traveling in a northeasterly direction on Phillips Road at its intersection with Reed Place shall bring such motor vehicle or bus to a full stop at or near the place where Phillips Road meets the prolongation of the westerly property line of Reed Place (one-way stop).
(17) 
Ridgefield Drive and Middle Road. Every operator of a motor vehicle or bus traveling in a northerly direction on Ridgefield Drive at its intersection with Middle Road shall bring such motor vehicle or bus to a full stop at or near the place where Ridgefield Drive meets the prolongation of the southerly property line of Middle Road; every operator of a motor vehicle or bus traveling in an easterly direction on Middle Road at its intersection with Ridgefield Drive shall bring such motor vehicle or bus to a full stop at or near the place where Middle Road meets the prolongation of the westerly property line of Ridgefield Drive, and every operator of a motor vehicle or bus traveling in a westerly direction on Middle Road at its intersection with Ridgefield Drive shall bring such motor vehicle or bus to a full stop at or near the place where Middle Road meets the prolongation of the easterly property line of Ridgefield Drive (three-way stop).
(18) 
Kenyon Avenue, Cedar Avenue and Middle Road. Every operator of a motor vehicle or bus traveling in a northerly direction on Cedar Avenue at its intersection with Middle Road shall bring such motor vehicle or bus to a full stop at or near the place where Cedar Avenue meets the prolongation of the southerly property line of Middle Road; every operator of a motor vehicle or bus traveling in an easterly direction on Middle Road at its intersection with Cedar Avenue shall bring such motor vehicle or bus to a full stop at or near the place where Middle Road meets the prolongation of the westerly property line of Cedar Avenue; every operator of a motor vehicle or bus traveling in a westerly direction on Kenyon Avenue at its intersection with Cedar Avenue shall bring such motor vehicle or bus to a full stop at or near the place where Kenyon Avenue meets the prolongation of the easterly property line of Cedar Avenue, and every operator of a motor vehicle or bus traveling in a southerly direction on Cedar Avenue at its intersection with Middle Road shall bring such motor vehicle or bus to a full stop at or near the place where Cedar Avenue meets the prolongation of the northerly property line of Middle Road (four-way stop).
(19) 
Fourth Street and Fourth Avenue. Every operator of a motor vehicle or bus traveling in a northerly direction upon Fourth Street at its intersection with Fourth Avenue shall bring such motor vehicle or bus to a full stop at or near the place where Fourth Street meets the prolongation of the southerly property line of Fourth Avenue (one-way stop).
(20) 
South Road and Tillinghast Road. Every operator of a motor vehicle or bus traveling upon South Road at its intersection with Tillinghast Road shall bring such motor vehicle or bus to a full stop at or near the place where South Road meets the prolongation of the nearest property line of Tillinghast Road, and every operator of a motor vehicle or bus traveling upon Tillinghast Road at its intersection with South Road shall bring such motor vehicle or bus to a full stop at or near the place where Tillinghast Road meets the prolongation of the nearest property line of South Road (three-way stop).
(21) 
Stone Ridge Drive and Granite Drive. Every operator of a motor vehicle or bus traveling in an easterly direction upon Stone Ridge Drive at its intersection with Granite Drive shall bring such motor vehicle or bus to a full stop at or near the place where Stone Ridge Drive meets the prolongation of the westerly street line of Granite Drive; and every operator of a motor vehicle or bus traveling in a westerly direction upon Stone Ridge Drive at its intersection with Granite Drive shall bring such motor vehicle or bus to a full stop at or near the place where Stone Ridge Drive meets the prolongation of the easterly street line of Granite Drive; and every operator of a motor vehicle or bus traveling in a southerly direction upon Granite Drive at its intersection with Stone Ridge Drive shall bring such motor vehicle or bus to a full stop at or near the place where Granite Drive meets the prolongation of the northerly street line of Stone Ridge Drive (two-way stop).

Cindyann Drive and Great Road. Every operator of a motor vehicle or bus traveling southerly upon Cindyann Drive at its intersection with Great Road shall bring such vehicle or bus to a full stop at or near the place where Cindyann Drive meets the prolongation of the northerly street line of Great Road, and every operator of a motor vehicle or bus traveling upon Great Road at its intersection with Cindyann Drive shall bring such motor vehicle or bus to a full stop at or near the place where Great Road meets the prolongation of the easterly street line of Cindyann Drive, and every operator of a motor vehicle or bus traveling northerly upon Cindyann Drive at its intersection with Great Road shall bring such vehicle to a full stop at or near the place where Cindyann Drive meets the prolongation of the southerly street line of Great Road (three-way stop).
(23) 
Water Street and King Street. A. 
The Chief of Police is hereby authorized and directed to place and maintain, or cause to be placed and maintained, on all of the streets named in § 248-19, at or near the property lines of the intersecting streets, appropriate signs, and in addition thereto may place and maintain any appropriate devices or marks in the roadway, such signs, devices or marks to bear the word "Stop" and to be located in such a position and to be provided with letters of a size to be clearly legible from a distance of at least 100 feet along the street.
B. 
The signs described in Subsection A of this section shall be illuminated at night or so placed as to be illuminated by streetlights or by the headlights of approaching motor vehicles.

A. 
Violations generally. Any person violating this section shall be deemed guilty of an offense.
B. 
Ayrault Road. The use of motor trucks in and upon Ayrault Road at any time is hereby prohibited, and the Chief of Police is hereby authorized and directed forthwith to cause conspicuous signs to be placed on such street giving notice of such prohibition; provided, however, that nothing contained in this subsection shall affect the use of the street by any fire truck, Town Public Works Department truck, police vehicle, ambulance, school bus or other motor truck using such street in any emergency or engaged in delivering goods, wares, merchandise or materials to or from any residence, building or lot within the Town bordering on the street.
C. 
Crompton Road and Shippeetown Road. The use of motor trucks weighing more than five tons in and upon Shippeetown Road from the northerly line of Division Street to Crompton Road and upon Crompton Road to the Coventry town line at any time is hereby prohibited, and the Chief of Police is hereby authorized and directed forthwith to cause conspicuous signs to be placed on such streets giving notice of such prohibition; provided, however, that nothing contained in this subsection shall affect the use of such street by any fire truck, Town Public Works Department truck, police vehicle, ambulance, school bus or other motor truck using such streets in any emergency or engaged in delivering goods, wares, merchandise or materials to or from any residence, building or lot within the Town bordering on the streets.
D. 
The emergency accessways at the high school premises. The use of a motor vehicle at any time in and upon the emergency access ways on the easterly and northerly sides of the high school, leading respectively to Chestnut Drive and to Tamarack Drive, is hereby prohibited, and the Chief of Police is hereby authorized and directed forthwith to cause conspicuous signs to be placed on the access ways giving notice of such prohibition; provided, however, that nothing in this subsection shall affect the use of the access ways by any fire truck, Town Public Works Department truck, police vehicle, ambulance, school bus or other motor vehicle using either access way in any emergency or any Department of Public Works vehicle in connection with maintenance of the ways.
E. 
School premises. The use at any time of motor vehicles, motorcycles, motor scooters, minibikes, mopeds and like motor vehicles in and upon the premises of any Town school facility is hereby prohibited; provided, however, that nothing contained in this subsection shall affect the use of motor vehicles in and upon paved ways and parking areas.
F. 
Town property. The use at any time of motor vehicles, motorcycles, motor scooters, minibikes, mopeds and like motor vehicles in and upon Town-owned real property is hereby prohibited; provided, however, that nothing contained in this subsection shall affect the use of motor vehicles in and upon graveled or paved ways for motor vehicles and parking areas for motor vehicles; and provided further, however, that nothing contained in this subsection shall affect the use of motor vehicles by employees or independent contractors of the Town for the purpose of maintaining or improving Town-owned real property.
G. 
Cedar Avenue. The use of motor trucks in and upon Cedar Avenue at any time is hereby prohibited, and the Chief of Police is hereby authorized and directed forthwith to cause conspicuous signs to be placed on said street giving notice of such prohibition; provided, however, that nothing contained herein shall affect the use of said street by any fire truck, Town Public Works Department truck, police vehicle, ambulance, school bus, pickup truck, van or other motor truck using said street in any emergency or engaged in delivering goods, wares, merchandise or materials to or from any residence, building or lot within the Town bordering on said street.
H. 
Division Street. The use of motor trucks with a gross vehicle weight of 10,000 pounds or more in and upon Division Street from First Avenue to Post Road at any time is hereby prohibited, and the Chief of Police is hereby authorized and directed forthwith to cause conspicuous signs to be placed on such streets giving notice of such prohibition; provided, however, that nothing contained in this subsection shall affect the use of such street by any fire truck, Town Public Works Department truck, police vehicle, ambulance, school bus or other motor truck using such streets in any emergency or engaged in delivering goods, wares, merchandise or materials to or from any residence, building or lot bordering on Division Street.
I. 
Howland Road. The use of motor trucks with a gross vehicle weight of 10,000 pounds or more in and upon Howland Road from Division Road to Middle Road at any time is hereby prohibited, and the Chief of Police is hereby authorized and directed forthwith to cause conspicuous signs to be placed on such streets giving notice of such prohibition; provided, however, that nothing contained in this subsection shall affect the use of such street by any fire truck, Town Public Works Department truck, police vehicle, ambulance, school bus or other motor truck using such streets in any emergency or engaged in delivering goods, wares, merchandise or materials to or from any residence, building or lot bordering on Howland Road.
J. 
South Road. The use of motor trucks with a gross weight of 12,000 pounds or more in and upon South Road from Route 2 to the border of North Kingstown at any time is hereby prohibited, and the Chief of Police is hereby authorized and directed forthwith to cause conspicuous signs to be placed on such streets giving notice of such prohibition; provided, however, that nothing contained in this subsection shall affect the use of such street by any fire truck, Town and State of Rhode Island trucks, police vehicle, ambulance, school bus or other motor truck using such streets in any emergency or engaged in delivering goods, wares, merchandise or materials to or from any residence, building or lot bordering on South Road.

The use of motor trucks with a gross weight of 12,000 pounds or more in and upon Clearview Drive from South Road to the border of North Kingstown at any time is hereby prohibited, and the Chief of Police is hereby authorized and directed forthwith to cause conspicuous signs to be placed on such streets giving notice of such prohibition; provided, however, that nothing contained in this subsection shall affect the use of such street by any fire truck, Town and State of Rhode Island trucks, police vehicle, ambulance, school bus or other motor truck using such streets in any emergency or engaged in delivering goods, wares, merchandise or materials to or from any residence, building or lot bordering on Clearview Drive.

No vehicle shall be driven over any unprotected hose of the Fire Department when laid down on any street or driveway, unless directed so to do by some authorized officer.

No vehicle, with the exception of a public safety vehicle, shall make a left-hand turning movement at the following locations:
