The following words and phrases when used in this chapter have the meanings respectively ascribed to them in this article, except when the context otherwise requires. Whenever any words and phrases used herein are not defined herein but are defined in the state laws regulating the operation of vehicles, any such definition therein shall be deemed to apply to such words and phrases used herein, except when the context otherwise requires.
COMMERCIAL VEHICLE
Every vehicle designed, maintained, or used primarily for the transportation of property.
CURB
A raised stone edging along a paved roadway.
CURB LOADING ZONE
A space adjacent to a curb reserved for the exclusive use of vehicles during the loading or unloading of passengers or materials.
FREIGHT CURB LOADING ZONE
A space adjacent to a curb for the exclusive use of vehicles during the loading or unloading of freight or passengers.
LOCAL RESIDENTIAL STREET
Every street or highway other than a state highway or private road or driveway.
PASSENGER CURB LOADING ZONE
A place adjacent to a curb reserved for the exclusive use of vehicles during the loading or unloading of passengers.
POLICE OFFICER
Every officer of the Town Police Department or any officer authorized to direct or regulate traffic or to make arrests for violations of traffic regulations.
SEMITRAILER
Every vehicle, with or without motive power, designed for carrying persons or property and for being drawn by a motor vehicle and so constructed that some part of its weight and that of its lead rests upon or is carried by another vehicle.
TRAILER
Every vehicle, without motive power, designed for carrying persons or property and for being drawn by a motor vehicle and so constructed that no part of its weight rests upon the towing vehicle.
TRANSPORTATION TRUCKING BUSINESS
The operation or handling of trucks, truck tractors, trailers and semitrailers, and the loading and unloading of trucks, truck tractors, trailers and semitrailers.
TRUCK
Every motor vehicle designed, used or maintained primarily for the transportation of property whose total capacity is 1 1/2 tons or more.
TRUCK TRACTOR
Every motor vehicle designed and used primarily for drawing other vehicles and not so constructed as to carry a load other than a part of the weight of the vehicle and load so drawn.
VEHICLE
Every object or device propelled or drawn on wheels, runners or otherwise except road rollers and such vehicles as run only upon rails or tracks.
