This chapter is adopted under the authority granted by §§ 59.02
and 349.06, Wis. Stats.
This chapter shall be known as, referred to, or cited as the "Green
Lake County Snowmobile Ordinance."
This chapter shall regulate the operation of all snowmobiles in the
unincorporated areas in Green Lake County.
A.
Pursuant to the authority granted to local authorities in § 349.06, Wis. Stats., Green Lake County does hereby adopt the provisions of Ch. 350, Wis. Stats., and the same are by reference made a part of this chapter as if fully set forth herein.
B.
Each section of Wisconsin Statutes adopted by this chapter
shall bear the same number in this chapter as it has in the Wisconsin Statutes.
The provisions of § 350.01, Wis. Stats., are hereby adopted
and by reference are made a part of this chapter as if fully set forth herein.

Any person who shall violate any provisions of this chapter shall, upon
conviction thereof, forfeit not less than $10 nor more than $200, together
with the costs of prosecution and the penalty assessment. Payment of the judgment
may be suspended by the sentencing judge for not more than 60 days. Any person
who shall fail to pay the amount of the forfeiture, costs of prosecution,
and the penalty assessment for violation of any provision of this chapter
may, upon order of the court entering judgment therefor having jurisdiction
of the case, be imprisoned until such forfeiture, costs and assessment are
paid, but not exceeding 90 days.
Stipulations of guilt or no contest may be made by persons issued a
citation for violation of this chapter. Stipulations shall conform to the
requirements of § 345.11, Wis. Stats., and may be accepted together
with the required forfeiture within the number of days from the date of the
alleged violation as appears on the uniform traffic citation and complaint
issued to the alleged offender. The stipulation of guilt shall be in a form
approved by the Judge of Circuit Court of Green Lake County, and the forfeiture
shall be as provided in a schedule of penalties established by the Judge of
said Circuit Court.
A.
Snowmobile trail season. The snowmobile trail season,
which indicates the time of the calendar year during which the recreation
trail may be used by snowmobiles, shall be from December 1 through March 31.
No snowmobiles shall be operated on the recreational trail other than during
the snowmobile season. No other vehicles may be operated on the recreation
trail during the snowmobile trail season except police vehicles, emergency
and rescue vehicles or County maintenance vehicles.
B.
Off-season regulations.
(1)
During the period from April 1 through November 30 the
recreation trail may be used for hiking and bicycling.
(2)
No motor vehicles of any kind shall be operated on the
recreation trail except police vehicles, emergency and rescue vehicles or
County maintenance vehicles. During the off-season, the use of the recreation
trail shall conform to the rules and regulations relating to County parks.[1] No horses are allowed.
C.
Signs. Signs for use on the recreation trail to regulate
snowmobile traffic, warn snowmobile drivers or assist the snowmobile driver
to reach his destination shall be in accordance with recommendations established
by the State Department of Natural Resources and shall be placed at appropriate
locations along the trail. No person shall operate a snowmobile other than
in accordance with such signs.
The Sheriff's Department will enforce the provisions herein. The District
Attorney, upon complaint from the Sheriff's Department, is authorized to institute
whatever legal proceedings he may deem necessary.
