[HISTORY: Adopted by the Village Board of the Village of New Glarus 1-18-2000 by Ord. No. 99-14 as Title 2, Ch. 1 of the 2000 Code. Amendments noted where applicable.]
The Village of New Glarus is a body corporate and politic with the powers of a municipality at common law and governed by the provisions of Chapters 61 and 66 of the Wisconsin Statutes, laws amending those chapters, other acts of the legislature and the Constitution of the State of Wisconsin.

The voting polls in the Village of New Glarus, Green County, Wisconsin shall be opened from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. for all elections, or as prescribed by state statute.
The official Village newspaper shall be the Post Messenger, to be used for the publication of legal and/or official notices and documents when publication is used instead of posting as allowed by Wisconsin law.

Pursuant to the Wisconsin Statutes, there is hereby established one set of election officials to conduct all elections in the four wards of the Village, which shall consist of seven election inspectors. However, the Village Clerk-Treasurer shall have the power to limit the number of election officials. The Clerk-Treasurer shall determine in advance of each election whether the number of election officials for such election should be reduced from the number prescribed by the Wisconsin Statutes, and if such a reduction is so determined, the Clerk-Treasurer shall further redistribute duties among the remaining officials.

A. 
Wards. The Village shall be divided into four wards as indicated on the attached map,[1] also described as follows:
(1) 
Ward 1: All that territory within the Village west of a line beginning at the center line of 2nd Street/County O on the north Village limit and running south along the of 2nd Street/County O from the north end of the Village limits to First Avenue, then west along the center line of First Avenue to the center line of Third Street and south on Third Street to the center line of Third Avenue, then east on Third Avenue to the center line of Second Street, south on Second Street to the center line of Fourth Avenue, west on Fourth Avenue to the center line of Third Street and south on Third Street to the center line of 8th Avenue, west on 8th Avenue to the center line of 7th Street and then north on 7th Street to the center line of 6th Avenue and west on 6th Avenue to Village limits and following Village limit line north and east to point of beginning. Ward 1 description by Census Tract and Block Number: Part of Tract 9602.00, Blocks: 3062-3065, 3126, 4015-4019, 4024-4028, and 4035-4036.

Ward 2: All that territory within the Village east of a line beginning at the center line of 2nd Street/County O on the north Village limit and running south along the center line of 2nd Street/County O from the north end of the Village limits to First Avenue, then west along the center line of First Avenue to the center line of Third Street and south on Third Street to the center line of Third Avenue, then east on Third Avenue to the center line of Second Street, south on Second Street to the of Fourth Avenue, west on Fourth Avenue to the center line of Third Street and south on Third Street to the center line of 8th Avenue, then east on 8th Avenue to the center line of 1st Street, north on 1st Street to the center line of 6th Avenue and east on the center line of 6th Avenue/Kubly Road to the Village limits and following Village limit line north and west to point of beginning. Ward 2 description by Census Tract and Block Number: Part of Tract 9602.00, Blocks 3060-3061, 3130-3131, 4001, 4003-4014, 4020-4023, 4029-4030, and 4033-4034.

Ward 3: All that territory within the Village west of a line beginning at the center line of 2nd Street on the south Village limit and running north along the center line of 2nd Street from the south end of the Village limits to 14th Avenue, then west onto the center line of 14th Avenue to the center line of 3rd Street, then north on 3rd Street to the center line of 8th Avenue, west on 8th Avenue to the center line of 7th Street, north on 7th Street to the center line of 6th Avenue and west on 6th Avenue to Village limits and following Village limit line south and east to point of beginning. Ward 3 description by Census Tract and Block Number: Part of Tract 9602.00, Blocks 1011-1018, 1020-1027, 1034-1037, 1049-1052, 1054-1056, 3085, 3087, 3092-3093, and 3096-3098.

Ward 4: All that territory within the Village east of a line beginning at the center line of 2nd Street on the south Village limit and running north along the center line of 2nd Street from the south end of the Village limits to 14th Avenue, then west onto the center line of 14th Avenue to the center line of 3rd Street, then north on 3rd Street to the center line of 8th Avenue, east on 8th Avenue to the of 1st Street, then north on 1st Street to the center line of 6th Avenue, east on 6th Avenue/Kubly Road to Village limits and following Village limit line south and west to point of beginning. B. 
Polling places. The polling places for all wards of the Village for all elections shall be the New Glarus Village Hall, 319 2nd Street, New Glarus, Wisconsin.
C. 
Combined Wards. Wards 1 and 2 and Wards 3 and 4 shall be combined for voting purposes.

Every candidate for an elective Village office shall be nominated by a nonpartisan primary, pursuant to § 8.05(4), Wis. Stats., Nomination in towns and villages, Village nonpartisan primary, and § 8.05(5), Wis. Stats., Nomination in towns and villages, When primary is held.
