All employees of the Department of Buildings, the Department of Sanitation, the Department of Highways and the Department of Public Safety who are now or hereafter charged with the responsibility to perform inspection and/or enforcement duties with regard to the laws, codes, ordinances, rules and regulations within the general jurisdiction of their respective departments are hereby further empowered to enforce any statute, local law, ordinance, rule or regulation relating to parking, licensing of occupations or businesses, fire prevention and safety, health and sanitation (including maintenance of roads and sidewalks), building, zoning and planning, and to issue appearance tickets returnable in the District Court of Nassau County for violation(s) thereof.
Nothing herein shall be construed in such a manner as to authorize enforcement of any laws, codes, ordinances, rules and regulations, including the issuance of appearance tickets, by any person who has not fulfilled express requirements or achieved necessary qualifications therefor as may be provided under applicable state or federal laws.
Nothing herein shall be construed as curtailing the authority of any employee of the Department of Buildings, the Department of Sanitation, the Department of Highways and/or the Department of Public Safety, heretofore existing under the laws, codes, ordinances, rules and regulations within the general jurisdiction of their respective departments.

A. 
For purposes of this section, the following words shall mean:
ASSAULT
Causing injury to another person with intent to cause physical injury; recklessly causing physical injury to another person; causing physical injury to another person by means of a deadly weapon or a dangerous instrument with criminal negligence; or intentionally making contact with another person by means of a foreign object or throwing or spraying a liquid.
TOWN OF HEMPSTEAD ENFORCEMENT OFFICIAL
An employee of the Department of Buildings, the Department of Sanitation, the Department of Highways, the Department of Public Safety, the Department of Conservation and Waterways, or the Town Clerk's Office who is now or hereafter charged with the responsibility to perform inspection and/or enforcement duties with regard to the laws, codes, ordinances, rules and regulations of the Town of Hempstead, New York State law, or federal law.
B. 
Any person who assaults a Town of Hempstead enforcement official who is acting in the course of and in pursuit of his/her official duties as a Town of Hempstead enforcement official shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, punishable by not less than 15 days in jail and not more than one year in jail.
