[Adopted by Ord. No. 3/61 (Ch. 3, Sec. 3-4, of the 1978 Revised General Ordinances)]
[Amended by Ord. No. 21-96]
The owner or tenant of any lands abutting upon the public highways of the Township shall remove all snow and ice from the full width and length of all abutting sidewalks of such highways and, at the intersection of two or more sidewalks constituting a corner and/or a crosswalk, from the sidewalk to the plowed section of the roadway, within 12 hours of daylight after the same falls or is formed thereon, provided that the Business Administrator is authorized to suspend this requirement or extend the period of removal when, in his/her opinion, unusual and extreme conditions occur, so as to warrant such action.
[Amended by Ord. No. 21-96]
Upon the failure of the owner or tenant to remove or provide for the removal of such snow and ice as provided in this article, the Township may remove the same, and the cost thereof shall be chargeable and assessable against the lands abutting upon the public highways in the Township from which the snow and ice is removed, as follows:
A.
The officer or employee of the Township in charge of the removal thereof shall certify the cost thereof to the Township Council.
B.
The Township Council shall examine such certificate, and if found to be correct, shall cause such cost to be charged against the real estate so abutting upon such sidewalk or gutter thereof.
C.
The amount so charged shall thereupon become a lien and a tax upon such real estate and be added to and be part of the taxes next to be levied and assessed thereon, and enforced and collected with interest by the same officers and in the same manner as other taxes.
D.
The provisions of this article shall not relieve any owner, tenant or occupant of the penalty provided in Chapter 1, Article II, General Penalty.
[Amended by Ord. No. 18-94]
No person, firm, corporation, owner, tenant or occupant of any premises abutting on any street shall shovel, throw, place or deposit any snow or ice into or upon any sidewalk or street in the Township. It is the intent and purpose of this provision to prohibit all persons from shoveling, throwing, casting, placing, plowing or depositing snow and ice, which accumulates on private property, upon sidewalks or streets of the Township.
