[HISTORY: Adopted by the Board of Supervisors of the Township of Salisbury 6-3-1986 (Ch. 4, Part 2, of the 1999 Code of Ordinances). Amendments noted where applicable.]
The Salisbury Township Supervisors shall assign one whole number for every 50 feet of ground, whether improved property or vacant lot, on every street within the corporate limits of Salisbury Township. Even numbers shall be assigned to the west side on all north-south streets and odd numbers to the east side. On east-west streets, even numbers shall be assigned to the south side of the street and odd numbers to the north side.
[Amended at time of adoption of Code (see Ch. 1, General Provisions, Art. I)]
Building numbers shall be a four digit number on all east-west streets and a three digit number on all north-south streets.
No duplication of street names is permitted within the Township. A continuous street, or one proposed to be continuous, should bear the same name throughout even though it changes directions.
[Amended at time of adoption of Code (see Ch. 1, General Provisions, Art. I)]
The owner or occupant or person in charge of any house or building to which a number has been assigned will be notified, in writing, by the Township or the United States Postal Service of the number assigned to the same at any time after the adoption of this chapter. Within 60 days after receipt of such written notification from the Township or the United States Postal Service, the owner or occupant or person in charge of a house or building to which the number has been assigned shall affix the number on the mailbox and on the dwelling facing the road. The numbers on the building shall be permanently maintained in Arabic numerals and/or alphabet letters, a minimum of four inches in height, with a minimum stroke width of 0.5 inch, and of contrasting color. If the number on the dwelling cannot be seen clearly from the road, the number shall be displayed on a post at the front of the property. It shall be the duty of such owner or occupant, or person in charge thereof, upon affixing the new number, to remove any different number which might be mistaken for, or confused with, the number assigned to said structure by the Township.
[Amended at time of adoption of Code (see Ch. 1, General Provisions, Art. I)]
All residential and business buildings erected after the adoption of this chapter shall be assigned a number in accordance with this chapter, which shall be issued with the building permit. The owners shall purchase and display such number on the mailbox and home as provided in this chapter.
[Amended by Ord. No. 8-2-1994-3; 2-2-1999 by Ord. No. 2-2-99-2; at time of adoption of Code (see Ch. 1, General Provisions, Art. I)]
In the event that the owner or occupant or person in charge of any house or building refuses to comply with the terms of this chapter by failing to affix the number assigned within 60 days after notification, upon conviction thereof in an action brought before a Magisterial District Judge in the manner provided for the enforcement of summary offenses under the Pennsylvania Rules of Criminal Procedure, shall be sentenced to pay a fine of not less than $1,000 nor more than $1,000, plus costs. Each day that a violation of this chapter continues or each section of this chapter which shall be found to have been violated shall constitute a separate offense.
