There shall be a bi-partisan canvassing authority appointed
by the Council as provided by the constitution and Laws of the State.
This canvassing authority shall be known as the Board of Canvassers
and shall be vested with all the powers and duties now or hereafter
vested by law in the canvassing authority of the Town. All members
of said authority or board now in office shall continue in their respective
positions as members thereof until the expiration of the terms for
which they were appointed.
The Board of Canvassers shall be composed of three members appointed
for terms of six years with one term expiring in each of even numbered
years. The Board shall elect one of its members as Chairman and another
as Clerk of the Board.
There shall be two bipartisan auxiliary members of the Board
of Canvassers who shall be appointed by the Town Council for a six-year
term, expiring on even numbered years, except for the initial appointments
which shall be made for the term of six years and four years respectively.
The auxiliary members shall sit as active members in the absence of
a Board member of their respective party and shall have the same voting
rights, powers and duties of the absent member.
