All children in this Town between the ages of
six and 16 years not regularly attending school during the time in
which schools are maintained in the respective districts in which
said children belong and who are without any regular and lawful occupation
shall be deemed habitual truants and shall be subject to the provisions
of this chapter and of the laws of the state concerning habitual truants
and children not attending school.
There shall be appointed each year truant officers,
not exceeding six in number, whose duty it shall be to enforce this
chapter.
Any child upon conviction of being an habitual
truant shall for the first offense be fined $2 and for each subsequent
offense, upon conviction thereof, shall be fined $5.
