The Chief and all investigators and inspectors in the Division
of Fire Services shall be required to maintain their technical training
standards as required by their various job descriptions and assignments.
The Division of Fire Services shall control and maintain the
Town of Colonie Municipal Training Center, currently located on Wade
Road. Although designed for training of Town personnel, the Division
of Fire Services, to the extent possible, shall work to ensure that
the facility is fully utilized and, thus, other emergency services
units should be permitted to train their personnel at the site upon
terms and conditions agreed upon by the Town Board.
Education of Town residents about the New York State Fire Code
and fire safety is an important function of the Division of Fire Services.
The Chief and his personnel shall, to the extent reasonably possible,
and with the prior approval of the Supervisor or the Supervisor's
designee, attend public functions to educate the public and distribute
educational materials about these matters. The Division shall promote
the use of smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, sprinkler systems
and evacuation plans for businesses and residences in the Town of
Colonie. Further, the Division of Fire Services shall be responsible
for the Fire Safety Bus and other similar training tools that may,
from time to time, become available.
