The purpose of this article is to change the term of office
of the Town Supervisor, the Town Clerk and the Town Superintendent
of Highways from two years to four years.
The term of office of persons hereafter elected to the Office
of Town Supervisor, Town Clerk and Town Highway Superintendent shall
be four years instead of two years. To provide for staggered terms
of office:
A. The person elected as Town Supervisor at the biannual election in
1989 shall be elected for a term of two years only and thereafter
beginning with the biannual election in 1991 shall be elected for
a four-year term of office.
B. The person elected as Town Clerk beginning at the biannual election
in 1989 shall be elected for a four-year term of office.
C. The person elected as Town Highway Superintendent beginning at the
biannual election in 1989 shall be elected for a four-year term of
office.
This article shall take effect following approval by the affirmative
vote of the majority of the qualified electors of the Town voting
upon the proposition for approval of this article at the 1987 general
election and upon filing thereafter with the New York State Secretary
of State.
