This chapter consists of "An ordinance establishing rules, regulations and standards governing the subdivision of land within the Township of Washington pursuant to the authority set forth in the Municipal Land Use Law, Chapter 291 of the Laws of 1975, and amendments and supplements thereto, setting forth the procedure to be followed by the Planning Board in applying and administering these rules, regulations and standards and providing penalties for the violation thereof."
This chapter shall be known and may be cited as the "Land Subdivision Ordinance of the Township of Washington."
The purpose of this chapter shall be to provide rules, regulations and standards to guide land subdivision in the Township of Washington in order to promote the public health, safety, convenience and general welfare of said Township and to carry out the objective of the Municipal Land Use Law.[1] It shall be administered to ensure the orderly growth and development, the conservation, protection and proper use of land and adequate provisions for circulation, utilities and services and the conservation and environmental protection of all land, water and air resources within the jurisdiction of Washington Township.

The provisions of this chapter shall be administered by the Township of Washington Planning Board or, in certain instances, by the Washington Township Zoning Board of Adjustment, as provided by and in accordance with the Municipal Land Use Law, Chapter 291 of the Laws of 1975, as amended and supplemented.
