The purpose of this article is to discourage truancy by punishing those who encourage its occurrence.
A. 
Except as provided in Subsection B, any person 18 years of age or older who, by any act or omission, knowingly encourages or contributes to the truancy of a child shall be subject to a forfeiture as provided in Chapter 290 of the County Code, plus assessments and court costs. An act or omission that would have the natural and probable consequence of causing a child to be truant constitutes a prohibited act under this article.[1]

B. 
Subsection A does not apply to a person who has under his or her control a child who has been sanctioned under § 49.26(1)(h), Wis. Stats.
As used in this article, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:
TRUANCY
As set forth at § 118.16(1)(c), Wis. Stats., as amended from time to time.[2]
