The Borough of Runnemede is a public service delivery organization and expects all employees to dress appropriately for a business environment and in keeping with his or her work assignment. Public image plays an important role in developing and maintaining the confidence and respect of the citizens of the Borough. Accordingly, Borough employees must at all times reflect a personal imagine as a professional employee in the performance of their job duties. Each employee must exercise good judgment and professional decisionmaking as they choose workplace attire. This policy establishes a set of guidelines to be used across departmental lines.
A. 
The following guidelines establish the general expectations regarding employee attire. The following list is not intended to include every possible scenario but presents guidelines for employee and supervisory decisions.
(1) 
Clothing, jewelry and accessories must not create a safety hazard for the employee or others or otherwise interfere with the safe performance of job functions.

(2) 
All clothing must be in good condition without holes, excessive wear or staining from use or design.
(3) 
Clothing may not display implied or stated profanity and cannot suggest or promote illegal drug use.
(4) 
Clothing may not display advertisements or logos for alcohol, tobacco products and/or illegal, racial or sexual connotations.
(5) 
Employees shall be clean, well groomed and demonstrate acceptable personal hygiene.
(6) 
All employees must wear required safety gear, including safety garments.
(7) 
All shirts must be tucked in.
(8) 
All clothing must be neat and clean.

(9) 
Appropriate undergarments must be worn.
(10) 
Employees shall not normally wear jewelry in facial and/or tongue piercing(s).
(11) 
Excessive or offensive (profanity, nudity, illegal acts, racial/ethnic slurs) tattoos must not be visible.
(12) 
Appropriate footwear must be worn.
B. 
Examples of inappropriate/unprofessional attire includes but is not limited to jeans; T-shirts (unless employed by the Department of Public Works); sneakers or other athletic shoes; flip flops; sweat pants; jogging outfits; spandex; revealing tops or bottoms (male or female); skintight, sexually provocative or revealing clothing (male or female); tank tops or halter tops; or cutoffs (male or female). Shorts may be worn, provided the garment meets the above standards, are worn with a belt or stitched-in waistband/belt and are no shorter than 1/2 the distance between the knee and the inseam.
