In accordance with N.J.S.A. 2C:40-1, a person is guilty of a disorderly persons offense when he maintains, stores or displays unattended in a place other than a permanently enclosed building or discards in any public or private place, including any junkyard, where it might attract children, a container which has a compartment of more than 1 1/2 cubic feet capacity and a door or lid which locks or fastens automatically when closed and which cannot easily be opened from the inside, and he fails to remove the door, lid or locking or fastening device.
Any person violating the provisions of this chapter shall, upon conviction, be punishable as provided in Chapter 1, Article II, General Penalty.
