This chapter is enacted pursuant to Municipal Home Rule Law § 10(1)(ii)(a)(1) and is intended to partially supersede Village Law § 3-300(1) and (2) and Public Officer's Law § 3(1) relating to the qualification of Village officers.
A. 
Every officer of the Village of Belle Terre, except elective officers, shall, at the time of his or her appointment and throughout his or her term of office, be an elector and resident of the County of Suffolk.
B. 
The Village Justice shall, at the time of his or her election or appointment and throughout his or her term of office, be an elector and resident of the County of Suffolk.
If any section or subdivision, paragraph, clause, or phrase of this chapter shall be adjudged invalid or held unconstitutional by any court of competent jurisdiction, any judgment made thereby shall not affect the validity of this chapter as a whole or any part thereof other than the part or provision so adjudged to be invalid or unconstitutional.
This chapter shall take effect upon filing with the Secretary of State pursuant to the Municipal Home Rule Law.
