No linen, cloth or canvass awning shall be erected in any street, road, lane or alley of the Town, except the railing on the lower side thereof be six feet eight inches above the pavement, under a penalty as provided in § 187-17 for each offense, and a penalty as provided in § 187-17 for each day such awning shall remain after notice to remove the same has been given.
It shall be unlawful for any person to permit a signpost, figure or device to extend more than two feet over the sidewalk on any street, road, lane or alley of the Town, under a penalty as provided in § 187-17 for each offense, and the further penalty as provided in § 187-17 for each day such sign or device may remain after notice to remove the same has been given.
It shall be unlawful to permit any wagon, dray, cart or other wheeled vehicle to stand when not in use upon any street, road, lane, alley or sidewalk within the Town limits, under a penalty as provided in § 187-17 for each offense.
Owners of vehicles used in hauling any substance of a loose or liquid nature over the streets, roads, lanes or alleys of the Town shall have such vehicles kept tight and in such condition so as not to permit the contents to scatter or fall on the ground, under a penalty as provided in § 187-17 for such offense.
It shall be unlawful for any person to set, place, permit or suffer any boxes, barrels, goods, wares, merchandise or other articles or materials, by way of exposure for sale or otherwise, to remain in any street, road or alley or upon any sidewalk (except when receiving or removing, or when about to auction the same) so as to project more than two feet from the wall of his or her house, and all goods, wares, merchandise, boxes or other articles must be removed from the sidewalks before 9:00 p.m. under a penalty as provided in § 187-17 for each offense.
Within 24 hours after the fall of any snow, occupants of houses on every paved street or alley, owners and agents having charge of vacant houses and lots and persons having charge of churches and public buildings shall clear away said snow or cause it to be cleared away from the sidewalks or footpaths or footways fronting on such houses, stores, shops, stables, buildings or vacant lots fronting on streets or alleys in such manner as to clear the passageway the full width of the sidewalk, and the snow shall not be heaped so as to obstruct the flow of water in the gutter. All persons offending against the provisions of this section shall forfeit and pay a fine as provided in § 187-17 for each offense and a further fine as provided in § 187-17 for every day such snow is allowed to remain on the sidewalk.
All trees growing upon or overhanging the sidewalks of the Town shall be trimmed and kept trimmed by the owner or owners thereof or, when the owner or owners do not reside on the premises in front of which the trees stand, then by the occupant or agent thereof, so that there shall be not less than nine feet in height of clear space above the pavement and every part thereof, and all grass and weeds growing in said sidewalks in front of any premises shall be removed by the owner, agent or occupant of said premises. All persons violating this section shall pay a fine as provided in § 187-17 for each offense, to be recovered as other fines are recovered.
Any person violating any provision of this article shall be subject to a fine of not less than $50 nor more than $500.
