A. 
The Mayor, with the advice and consent of the Board of Aldermen, at the first (1st) meeting after each annual City election shall appoint a suitable person as City Attorney who shall hold office until his/her successor is appointed and qualified.
B. 
Qualifications. No person shall be appointed to the office of City Attorney unless he/she be a licensed and practicing attorney at law in this State.

The City Attorney shall attend the regular meeting of the Board of Aldermen each month, unless excused by the Mayor. In addition to attendance of the above described regular meeting of the Board of Aldermen, the City Attorney shall advise the Mayor, Board of Aldermen and such other officers of the City of all legal matters connected with their duties, render legal opinions concerning municipal questions, draft ordinances and contracts and prosecute and defend litigation in which the City may be involved.

The City Attorney shall receive compensation as set by ordinance, payable at the end of each month, for the attendance at the regular Board meeting. In addition, the City Attorney may be paid for any additional work at the rate set by ordinance.

The Prosecuting Attorney shall attend one (1) session of the Cool Valley Municipal Division of the St. Louis County Circuit Court per month and prosecute all cases in the court. In addition to attendance at the Municipal Division and prosecution of all cases before the Municipal Division, the Prosecuting Attorney shall prosecute all appeals to the St. Louis County Circuit Court.

The Prosecuting Attorney shall receive compensation as set by ordinance, payable at the end of each month, for the attendance at the regular sessions of the Cool Valley Municipal Division of the St. Louis County Circuit Court. In addition, the Prosecuting Attorney shall be paid for additional work in prosecuting appeals to the St. Louis County Circuit Court at the rate set by ordinance.
