Special fire/auxiliary police for the Township of O'Hara are hereby authorized pursuant to the Act,[1] and other relevant statutes except as described herein.

The Township of O'Hara Police Superintendent shall oversee and be responsible for all activities of the special fire/auxiliary police. Special fire/auxiliary police shall serve at the pleasure of the Police Superintendent.
The primary functions of special fire/auxiliary police within the Township of O'Hara shall be to provide traffic and crowd control duties as permitted and assigned by the Police Superintendent. Special fire/auxiliary police may also perform other duties as assigned by the Police Superintendent.
A. 
Applications for membership as a special fire/auxiliary police officer shall be made on an application form approved by the Police Superintendent.
B. 
Applicants for special fire/auxiliary police officer must satisfactorily complete initial training as prescribed by the Police Superintendent.
C. 
After successful completion of the initial training, the Police Superintendent may nominate such applicants as a special fire/auxiliary police officer.
D. 
Before entering upon their duties, any person must take an oath in writing as prescribed by the Act.
It shall be the duty of all special fire/auxiliary police officers to participate in ongoing training as prescribed by the Police Superintendent. Ongoing training shall be conducted at least once per year. Reports on such training shall be provided to the O'Hara Township Council and Manager in writing by the Police Superintendent.
A. 
No member of the special fire/auxiliary police may carry a firearm while on duty.
B. 
No member of the special fire/auxiliary police shall have arrest powers and shall have any other powers as regular police officers employed by the Township of O'Hara only when on active duty.
While performing their duties, members of the special fire/auxiliary police shall have on their person and display such form of identification as prescribed by the Police Superintendent.
Members of the special fire/auxiliary police may elect officers, adopt bylaws and conduct business as such members so choose, with all activities under the supervision of the Police Superintendent.
